Our ‘Future for Families’ parenting programmes provide childcare workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to work effectively with parents either in group settings or individually. All workers must complete one of our two-day training courses before they can use the parenting programme in their practice. Our parenting programmes are suitable for use with any parent from low to critical need. Our ethos is to enable workers to build the self-esteem of parents empowering them to manage behaviour appropriately. The programmes aim to improve relationships and prevent family breakdowns.
Workers are only able to use our ‘Future For Families’ parenting programmes in practice after they have attended one of our two-day training courses, which teaches them how to deliver the material to parents. For details of the parenting programme courses we offer please click here. Our style of training is non-threatening, interactive and fun. Our trainers have a wealth of knowledge and practical experiences to demonstrate each learning aspect effectively.
On completion of the two-day training, workers are awarded a certificate of attendence. In addition, we provide each worker with a Groupwork Manual and Handout Materials relating to the specific parenting programme they have completed (either Handling Children’s Behaviour, Handling Children’s Behaviour with Special Needs, or Handling Teenage Behaviour). The Groupwork Manual is a step-by-step guide on how to deliver the parenting programme to groups of parents, and the Handout Materials provides workers with useful information and activity sheets that can be photocopied and given to parents during the parent sessions. Our Handling Teenage Behaviour Parenting Programme is an 8 week groupwork programme, and the Handling Children’s Behaviour Parenting Programme is 10 week groupwork programme.
We offer workers an Individual Manual, which provides a step-by-step guide on how to use the parenting programme on a one-to-one basis with parents and families; this individual programme can be completed over a 6 week period. A Special Needs Supplement is also available for those professionals who work with parents/carers who have a child with special needs.
All professionals who attend one of our two-day training courses are asked to complete a course evaluation form. These evaluation forms are analysed regularly and the results will be available on our website shortly.
Everytime workers use the parenting programme in practice, whether it is running parent groups in their community or using the material with individual families, we ask that they complete a worker evaluation form. Also, encorporated in the last session of the parenting programme, we ask workers to distribute our parent evaluation form to the parents they have been working with; these are completed and returned to us following the programme. It is vitally important that both workers and parents evaluate our parenting programmes for quality assurance purposes.
To help workers when arranging, advertising and delivering the parenting programme, we have created an additional resources section of our website which gives workers some additional documentation and information that may be useful to them. We have a poster that workers can download and use to advertise their parenting programme to parents in their community, we have an attendance sheet which can be used as a register at the start of every parent group session, we also have parent guides and additional literature that workers can distribute to parents to help with their learning. All of these items are available on our additional resources page.
To help workers already using our ‘Future For Families’ material in practice, we also offer one-day refresher courses. These courses are designed for workers who have already attended the two-day training and are already using the parenting programme with parents in their community (either in groups or individually). It provides workers with the opportunity to discuss any issues that may have arisen during the programme, ask our trainers to recap on any of the subject areas, whilst being able to discuss and share their experiences with other workers. We currently offer a Handling Children’s Behaviour Refresher Course and Handling Teenage Behaviour Refresher Course.
