Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions:
How long has Future Childcare Training Limited been running?
Future Childcare Training Ltd has been in existence since May 2002. Prior to this Joy Osborn and Sue Stead (Future Childcare Training’s company directors) both worked for NCH (Action For Children) as manager and deputy manager of the Handling Children’s Behaviour Project. Their work with NCH began in 1996 and the aim of the project was to train childcare workers in the use of ‘Handling Children’s Behaviour’ material; a course written by Graham Finch. Joy and Sue setup their own business in 2002, Future Childcare Training Limited, which was established with NCH and Graham Finch’s approval and support. They have built on the success of the Handling Children’s Behaviour Project and they now offer a wide range of childcare courses and parenting programmes available to all childcare professionals from all childcare sectors throughout the UK.
What experience do your trainers have?
Our trainers have recent and current experiences in the childcare field, and have been actively involved in the delivery and formulation of training programmes for over 15 years. They have worked as trainers for local authorities, NSPCC, NCH, and independently. Their experiences cover the spectrum of 0-21 years of age, residential, day care, group-work, specialist services including child development and special needs, direct work with children and families, childcare placements, child protection, registration and inspection, and many years managing a range of services.
Is the training accredited?
Yes it is accredited by the Open College Network and provides under pinning knowledge required by NVQ and SNVQ.
Is the training suitable for childcare workers on all levels?
Yes we train all workers in the childcare field, both qualified and unqualified, however it is always helpful for delegates to read through the main aims and objectives of each course to ensure the course meets their individual training needs.
Will the trainer travel to my local area to deliver the training?
If you are booking a group course yes the trainer will come to your local area to deliver the training. If you are attending one of our regional courses full details of the course venues are provided on the regional course page of our website and course delegates and the course trainer will travel to this organised venue.
What is the difference between Regional Courses and Group Courses?
Group courses can be booked by organisations that have between 12 and 25 people needing to be trained. This does not have to be an individual team from one organisation/local authority, it can be a collection of childcare professionals from multi-agencies who work in the same region. We offer a wide range of group courses to meet each organisation’s specific requirements. A trainer from Future Childcare Training will travel to the customer’s local area to deliver the training at a venue they have organised and paid for. The customer will also be responsible for organising suitable accommodation (when necessary) for the course trainer. Future trainers will organise their own travel arrangements and will add these additional costs to the customer’s invoice e.g. flights, car hire, mileage etc.
Regional Courses have been designed for individuals or small teams who do not have enough delegates to book their own ‘group course’. We currently offer our Handling Children’s Behaviour Parenting Programme, Handling Teenage Behaviour Parenting Programme, our Esteem Builder’s, and our Anger Management course on a regional basis. We run these regional courses in Glasgow, Scotland and in Rugby, Warwickshire. We are also considering offering courses in Manchester, London and Belfast in the future - this is dependent on the level of interest in these areas. For regional based courses Future Childcare Training are responsible for organising and paying for the training venue, as well as the trainer’s accommodation & travel arrangements.
How do I book a Group Course?
We would recommend you have a look through our Group Courses page of the website to view the courses that are available. If you click on the title of the course you are interested in, the aims and objectives of the course will be displayed. Once you have decided on the course(s) you would like to book you need to contact the administration team at Future Childcare Training to discuss suitable dates. You can call 024 7654 5500 or email: info@futurechildcaretraining.com. Please note: you will need between 12 and 25 delegates to book a group course. If you do not have enough delegates to run a group course we recommend you book yourself onto one of our regional courses.
How do I book a place on a Regional Course?
You will need to view the regional courses page of the website to see the courses we have available on a regional basis. Once you have selected a suitable location and date for the course you wish to attend, you will need to download our application form from the regional course page of the website and send the completed form to email: info@futurechildcaretraining.com, fax: 024 7654 5500 or post: Future Childcare Training Limited, PO Box 4388, Rugby, CV21 9DN. Full details of details of how to book a place on any of our regional courses are on the regional courses page of our website.
If I am organising a Group course do I decide who attends? e.g. multi-agency delegates.
Yes. We have a limit on the number of delegates for each course (between 12 and 25 delegates) but we leave it up to you to decide how you organise the delegates.
Do you train foster carers and professional workers together?
Yes, we actively encourage this as it is always helpful to create consistent approaches when working with children.
How much will it cost to attend a Future Childcare Training course?
If you are organising a group course for your team or a group of professionals in your area, the prices for each course are available on our price list. Please note: you will need between 12 and 25 delegates to book a Group Course and the trainer will come to your local area to deliver the course.
If you are attending a regional course prices are available on the regional courses page of our website.
How long is the course?
The length of the course depends entirely on which course you are attending. Generally courses are one, two or three day courses. If you are attending a ‘group course’ you will find details of the course duration on our price list page. The duration of our regional courses are detailed on the regional course page of our website.
Do I need to bring anything with me when I attend a course?
We will be providing you with handouts for everything we cover on the course, however if you like to take notes make sure you bring some paper and a pen with you.
What are delegates provided with on the courses?
We provide delegates with a course manual on completion of every course. We also provide an Handout Materials for those delegates attending the Handling Children’s Behaviour Parenting Programme or the Handling Teenage Behaviour Parenting Programme so they are able to run parent groups after completing the training. We also have numerous books that are available to purchase, please see our bookshop page for further details.
What if I lose my training pack?
You can purchase another course manual but you need to prove that you have already attended the original training course. We hold a record of every delegate that has attended our courses and can reference your details. Please note you will need to provide the course dates and location of the course you attended.
Once I have completed the training can I use the course materials to train my colleagues?
No. The material is subject to copyright and the terms state that people have to be trained by Future Childcare Training Limited in the use of the training materials and can only use the material when working with parents and families. You cannot use the materials to train other professionals, neither should professionals who have not attended the training courses use the materials.
How do I pay for the training?
For group courses we invoice customers after the training is complete so we know the exact number of delegates that attended the event and we can charge accordingly. However, when applying for regional based courses, as places are limited and we need to avoid last minute cancellations we invoice on receipt of a completed application form and payment must be made within 28 days of the invoice date.
Can I pay for our training in advance?
Yes. Advanced invoicing can be arranged on request; we would need you to estimate the number of delegates attending your course as we do not provide refunds on advanced invoices.
