This course is aimed to develop awareness of the supervisor’s role in family support services and provide the opportunity to develop skills within the role. Supervision is a vital key to the successful protection of children, and in gaining reflective and objective professional judgments.
This is a two day course and relevant for all who work in a management or supervisory role within any childcare setting.
The lack of good supervision is a common theme within many Serious Case Reviews. The need for clearly defined supervision objectives and standards are essential to make sure that supervision sessions are of consistent standards and expectations. It is a very practical course which will enable everyone to reflect and learn from previous experiences with particular emphasis on recognising professional dangerousness. Supervisors and Supervisee’s should have a greater knowledge of policies, practice standards and procedures that are relevant to our local services within the local authority.

course aims and objectives
This course aim to:
- Raise awareness of the guidance, policies, research, theory and legislation that impact on, and form the back-cloth to child care supervision.
- Provide structured time for reflection, exploration and planning.
- Develop the skills and knowledge to enable course participants to recognise dangerous practice through supervision.
- Identify the skills required for supervising professionals and how to ensure practices are of a high standard.
- Work on strategies to challenge dangerous practices and to enable supervisors to overcome the barriers within the supervision setting.
- Take practices to a higher level in order to safeguard children from risk of harm and to understand how families behave.
- To reinforce the crucial role of good quality supervision within childcare generally but in particular in the safeguarding arena.

To book this course you will need between 12 and 25 people that need training. This could be your own team of staff or you could contact other childcare professionals, local authorities or agencies in your local area who may also require the training. When you have between 12 and 25 delegates that need training you can contact our administration team to discuss available training dates.

You will be responsible for organising a suitable venue and any catering you wish to provide for the delegates. Also, where necessary you will need to organise and pay for one evenings accommodation for our course trainer the night prior to the course date. We will be responsible for making the necessary travel arrangements for our course trainer and the travel costs will be added to your invoice.
