about the course

Most people who trained to work in the childcare settings concentrated their learning on their vocational choices, e.g. teaching, medicine, play and development, speech therapy, residential work, fostering, legislation etc.  It is often not until we work within the real day-to-day setting that we realise that working with adults is often the most important and difficult part of the job. Parents are our most important service user alongside the child in any setting; in fact the parent provides our route to working with the child in most situations. It is therefore crucial that we learn how to engage positively with parents even when there is resistance or there are difficult issues to discuss.
