about the course
This one-day course is suitable for those who are new to this field of work or those who require first step basic training. We present this subject in a manner that is non-threatening and interesting to the course participant. It is particularly helpful to foster carers, family support workers, nursery workers and all other child care professionals.
This course can provide the foundations for good practice and is often used as stage one of a three-stage package, which can include our other courses “An Introduction to Child Sexual Abuse” and “An Introduction to Safe Caring”. Trainers use a range of approaches to this subject and those who have attended have identified clear learning in terms of their daily work, their understanding of child abuse and how their practices relate to the legal framework and local procedures. We aim to help participants understand their role in the child protection arena, even when they do not see their role as being integral to child protection work. We believe it is everyone’s job to make sure we keep children safe.

This course aims to:
- Provide participants with a safe and enjoyable learning environment.
- Clarify the legal framework and safeguarding guidance and procedures that form the basis for practice across all agencies.
- Address concerns and anxieties that surround this topic and work through any difficult issues through discussion and facilitation.
- Create an impact on the way participants interpret and understand the affects that child abuse can have in a child’s life, development and behaviour.
- Discuss the myths that surround child abuse and develop a deeper awareness of the barriers that get in the way for professionals who work with children.
- Help delegates to gain further practical knowledge and skills around this work, particularly in light of recent child deaths that have been depicted through the media.
- Create an understanding of the need to work together with others to ensure the child’s safety and the crucial role of effective communication.
- Become aware of the roles and responsibilities of all involved in the care of children.
how to book this course
This one-day course is charged at £750 per course + VAT. To book this course you will need between 12 and 25 people that need training. This could be your own team of staff or you could contact other childcare professionals, local authorities or agencies in your local area who may also require the training. When you have between 12 and 25 delegates that need training you can contact our administration team to discuss available training dates.

You will be responsible for organising a suitable venue and any catering you wish to provide for the delegates. Also, where necessary you will need to organise and pay for one evenings accommodation for our course trainer the night prior to the course date. We will be responsible for making the necessary travel arrangements for our course trainer and the travel costs will be added to your invoice.
